Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden Engagement Photography at CSULB | Claudia & Alex

February 6, 2009

Salutations!

Ah, yes, my ol’ alma mater. Good ol’ Long Beach. I have made many fond memories during my college years here at California State University, Long Beach. Whether it was meeting up friends at the University Student Union for lunch, watching a sporting event at the Walter Pyramid, or listening to an orchestra perform at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, there were always memories waiting to be made.

Recently, I was invited to another engagement session by Doug from Furious and did not hesitate to say yes. I’ve been to the Japanese garden on campus a number of times prior and felt very confident that I could impress everyone with some shots and poses I already had in mind.

The engaged couple, Claudia and Alex, were fellow Long Beach 49ers and were such a fun couple to photograph. With their laid back and mellow personality, it was totally easy for Doug and me to get right into it and have some fun.

Alex was quite the car enthusiast, so we had to throw a shot of his old-school VW bug in the shot. After all, he only spent several hours waxing it the night before =)

The sky was gorgeous that day, so we had to capture that as well. This was actually the spot where Alex asked Claudia the big question.

After the photo shoot, Alex invited Doug and me to grab some dinner with the two before we headed back home. Being the foodie that I am and a former Long Beach resident, they asked if I had any suggestions for Thai food. It just so happened that one of my all-time favorite spots for Thai food was just a couple of blocks away.

It was a wonderful day. I think it was also the day I started thinking about becoming a full-time wedding photographer instead of just doing it for fun whenever Doug asked me if I wanted to tag along. Can this really be where my niche is? We’ll see!

Cheers!
